Ab sofort hat die Hockeyabteilung wieder einen FSJler. Hier stellt er sich kurz vor:
My name is Ross Patterson I am from a small city just outside of Durban called Ballito which is on the tropical east coastline of South Africa. This area consists of beautiful beaches with epic waves and amazing weather all year around. My family consists of my mother, father and my younger brother. I am currently studying Sports Science in university. I am also 23 years old.
Frage: Ross, welcome to BTHV – not to Bonn. Actually you have been here already two months starting with Rugby. How did that happen??
I have been in Germany since the 2nd of April working for Bonn Rugby Club. I was offered a fantastic opportunity in the volunteer program here in Germany by the Sharks Rugby Academy in South Africa. The opportunity to learn to speak another language is a skill I would love to have, but everyone speaks English so well. So help me out with my German guys.
Frage: Now you switched to field hockey which happened why??
I have been in Germany since the 2nd of April working for Bonn Rugby Club. But I have played hockey since I was six years old. So hockey is my preferred sport. And the language problem made it a little difficult to teach rugby so I switched to hockey.
Frage: What has the club planned for you like which teams are you going to train??
I enjoy the fast-paced skill of the game and was offered a chance to play and coach here. With my coaching training which I completed in South Africa, I can coach hockey at various levels, and wherever the club needs me I am happy to assist.
Frage: Your sport in South Africa was field hockey – not a sport which a lot of people play. This happened how??
Hockey is a very popular sport in South Africa and our national team is nowhere near as good as Germany but can hold their own. The South African men’s indoor team is ranked 6th in the world and the men’s outdoor team is Ranked 14th in the world.
Frage: Your first impression of BTHV. You were a coach at the camp??
I had the pleasure of being one of the trainers on the camp for the U12 boys and girls. I love the positive energy and enthusiasm as well as the family environment that BTHV has.
Frage: Plans are for you to stay until March 31. And then??
At the end of my contract I will return to South Africa to finish my Sports Science Degree and will have invaluable experience that BTHV and Bonn Rugby Union Club has given me and hopefully be able to hold a basic conversation in German.
